Sadly, there are only 5 stars here. It needs 7, at least. A sequel to the f-ing amazing Black Phoenix, and set in a world of his own creation, Alan has made being a werepanther/wizard something I want to be.....especially if I got that much action as Mutt does.Read it....don't be a pansy.

When Mutt, the werpanther, tries to clear his brother's name, he discovers that he can't play the game and try to find "peace" in the paranormal city that Atlanta has become. The death of one faction leader has set a cycle of discovery in play involving his brothers, his parents, his former lover and people he can't tolerate. The ending is developed around the idea of making your own rules instead of accepting the usual
This has to be the best paranormal soap opera I have ever read. In some ways, it reflects Kemp's love of Atlanta, and his contempt for the dicotomy our society expects. As a pastor I see the parallels with the Old Testament record of Hagar and how she was treated. It is believed that her son was the father of another nation, the Muslims, and that the struggles between the two nations is a form of sibling rivalry. And as a lover of the author Anne Rice, this genre that Kemp has chosen is violent and thorough.
And, in the end, this story is a lot of fun. There is just enough tongue-in-cheek irony to amuse anyone. I am looking forward to the next chapter in this were- drama
