4 murders. 5 bombings. And no one charged. This is the definitive story of the Family Court Murders.
An initiative of the Whitlam Government, the so-called 'helping court' opened its doors in January 1976. But despite the high idealism of the court's creators, they failed to factor in one universal truth that in a marital tug of war, one side would always feel more embittered than the other.
Despite the brazen enormity of the shootings and bombings in Sydney from 1980 - attacks that hit at the very heart of the judicial system - and a prime suspect publicly named by the Coroner, the police investigation failed to culminate in an arrest and after three decades stalled to a benign 'review' status. Following a tip-off from a possible witness, the Channel 7 Sunday Night program determined to investigate this cold case. Award-winning true-crime writer and investigative journalist Debi Marshall was part of the team who worked this story.
Thirty-three years on, the horror of these crimes still haunts everyone involved. Witnesses are frightened to speak. Family members live in the dark shadows of grief and fear. Widows and children continue to live without closure. To break this uneasy silence, Marshall embarked on a terrifying journey into the dark heart of the Family Court murders - and the prime suspect.
What she has uncovered will shock and outrage.

It was serendipitous, reading this book when I did. Having completed it, I was gratified to read on the internet that the suspect had very recently been arrested. No doubt the painstaking and detailed investigation carried out by Debi Marshall played a large part in persuading the police that there was now sufficient evidence to charge Len Warwick. It will be interesting to watch the progress of this matter through the courts, and gratifying to see him convicted,Debi Marshall constructed a compelling case. One has to wonder how anyone who was suspected of having committed the atrocities with which Warwick has now been charged was able to remain free for as long as he did. Perhaps we will now see him get his just desserts. Innocent until proven guilty? Certainly, but I would like to see defence counsel try to argue this man's innocence.

The Family Court Murders eBook Debi Marshall Reviews
I am actually only half way through the book. As a resident of Sydney during this outrage I was aware of the distress this man was causing. I was only a block away from the bomb that killed Judge Watsons wife and believe me it was horrendous and something I will never forget. I also knew some of the people in the Kingdom Hall and to read in detail what they went through was very upsetting even though it was 30 odd years ago.
I was telling some of my friends here in the USA (my current residence) about this atrocity and so thought I would Google to see if anything ever come of it. I found he had been arrested and convicted and hopefully will never be released.
The book is well written although the details of all the events is quite upsetting, even more so if you know the people being injured.
I would recommend anyone to read this as it will at least fill in the gaps in the memory of those who witnessed these atrocities, or at least help others to understand the ramifications of these events on many people and relatives of the victims. We hope and pray that the bringing back to memory all the events taking place back then will be softened by the knowledge that the perpetrator is no longer free.

Phenominal research by the author, and I would not be surprised to learn that the current Investigators read this, dissected the circumstantial evidence, and obtain evidence which was apparently not established by the previous investigations. I am pleased that the Monster has now been confined and hopefully, he will not continue to insist on his right to silence to give alll the victims some semblance of peace. It is just a shame that it took 3 decades for the villain to be arrested. He should now die in gaol.
Well researched, very detailed analysis of events - she knows her job as investigate journalist.
